AIA District Architecture Center

GCS-SIGAL completed an interior renovation for the new home of AIA | DC and the District Architecture Center (DAC). A cohesive design approach fostered continuity throughout the two-story space. Glass walls surrounding the center classroom—the heart of the building—enhance openness and create a more spacious feel. Natural daylight flows through the street storefront, seamlessly connecting the interior with its surroundings.
Structural improvements, including a reinforced concrete slab, were implemented to meet the tenant’s program requirements and improve accessibility between floors. The layout, encompassing the reception area, gallery, and classrooms, was thoughtfully arranged to accommodate various events, offering flexibility to meet the DAC’s diverse needs.
